What makes a good earplug?

Most earplugs fail for one of three reasons: wrong fit, wrong attenuation or poor hygiene. Here's how we think about all three.

Fit comes first

Ear canals are as individual as fingerprints. An earplug that's too big causes pressure and pain — one that's too small leaks sound and falls out. That's why we make three sizes (S, M, L) instead of one-size-fits-all, and why most people start with a Discovery Pack containing all three.

The right attenuation — not the most

Attenuation is measured in SNR (Single Number Rating). Higher isn't always better: the goal is to turn the volume down, not shut the world out. Happy Ears Original attenuates 25 dB SNR — right for sleep, travel and everyday life. Ocean Plastics attenuates 27 dB SNR for louder environments. Both are CE-certified to EN 352-2.

Hygiene and durability

Our earplugs are made from smooth, silicone-free TPE that doesn't absorb moisture or earwax. Rinse them with soap and water and they're as good as new — the same pair lasts for years. Compare that with foam plugs, which are single-use and in the bin after one night.
