A small that is actually small

You have probably bought earplugs that promised to fit small ears. You have probably taken them out an hour later — because they fell out, or because they hurt.

Happy Ears comes in three sizes, and our Small is genuinely small — not a medium with a different label. It is the size 291 of our reviewers went out of their way to write about. And because nothing expands, presses or absorbs, it is the pair people with sensitive ear canals tell us they finally forgot they were wearing. If none of the three fits, we refund you. That is the whole offer.

How to know if you need Small

Honest answer: you probably can’t tell by looking. Ear canal width has almost no relationship to the ear you see in the mirror. The Discovery Pack has one pair of each size, so you find out at home — test Large first, then Medium, then Small — and if no size fits, we refund your purchase.

Why most earplugs don’t fit small ear canals

Most earplugs are made in one size, built around an average adult ear canal, and sold on the assumption that foam will compress to fit anything. For a narrow canal it doesn’t work like that. The plug either sits too shallow and falls out overnight, or goes in far enough to seal and presses hard enough to ache by morning. Neither is a fit problem you can solve by pushing harder.

Happy Ears Small is a different mould, not a compressed medium. It is shaped for a narrower canal, in a low-profile oval that sits flush against the ear — so it stays put when you turn over, and doesn’t press when your ear is against a pillow.

Signs Small is likely your size: standard foam plugs work loose while you sleep; earbuds fall out of your ears; plugs that do seal leave your ears aching after a few hours; you have been told your ear canals are narrow.

The sizes are colour-coded: Large is black, Medium is white, Small is red.

“I bought these hoping they would fit my small ears. They did! I have bought so many other brands that said they would fit small ears and they did not fit. Thank you Happy Ears!”

Verified buyer — small ears
“I have very small ear canals and found the foam earplugs to be very uncomfortable as they make my ears ache after a few hours. Happy Ears are so comfortable! I sleep with these every night and I have no discomfort at all.”

“I was using the pink and yellow foam ear plugs and they were really beginning to make my ears hurt and itch. […] My ears no longer hurt / itch. They are indeed very happy!!”
Verified buyer — sensitive ears
“I have very sensitive ear canals and even foam ones would hurt me by the next morning as I would have to push them in very tightly and far in so they would stay in over night. I can’t feel the Happy Ears ones at all.”
Verified buyer — sensitive ear canals
“I had been using foam earplugs but I always wake up with sore ears using them. The Happy Ears don’t give me any pain at all. […] The no pain is the biggest thing for me.”
Verified buyer — sore ears with foam
“These earplugs are extremely well made. Unfortunately I have ridiculously small ear canals, so even the smallest size are a tad too big for me. The customer service team offered me a refund, no questions asked. So I’d definitely recommend trying them — you’ve got nothing to lose.”

Sensitive ears: earplugs that don’t hurt or itch

It doesn’t expand

Foam is compressed, pushed in and then swells to fill the canal — that outward pressure is the dull ache after a few hours. Happy Ears seal at the opening of the canal, in a size that already fits, so nothing presses from the inside.

It doesn’t absorb

Foam and wax soak up moisture and earwax and hold them against your skin all night, which is where the itching comes from. Happy Ears are smooth medical-grade TPE that absorbs neither — wash with mild soap and hot water and they go back in clean.

It comes in your size

A plug that is too big presses; one that is too small goes in too far. Both hurt. Three sizes and a pack to test them at home is the fix, not a softer foam.

Nothing pokes

The stem is under a centimetre, so nothing pokes the outer ear when you sleep on it. The material is silicone-free and allergy-tested. If you have an ear infection, eczema in the canal or a perforated eardrum, ask your doctor before using any earplug.
